TopScan - FAQ

1. What is the USB-C port on the VCI of TopScan used for?

The USB-C port on the VCI can be used to power the VCI by connecting it to a power source when there is no vehicle available. This allows for Bluetooth pairing and activation operations.

2. What is the range of the Bluetooth connection for Topscan’s VCI?

The Bluetooth connection distance is 33 feet (10 meters).

3. How can I verify the software's expiration date or validity period?

app > Diagnostic menu > The software expiration date will be displayed under each vehicle model software.

4. Can customer information such as name, phone number, and license plate number be filled in the diagnostic report?

Sure, you can fill in the information on the diagnostic report generation interface.

5. Why does Topscan not recognizing VIN by reading the vehicle barcode?

The VIN scanning function is used to directly scan the VIN, not the barcode. Therefore, the device is unable to decode vehicle information through barcodes. You can try scanning the VIN, and the device will automatically populate the VIN information.

6. Can TopScan diagnostic software be used after expiration without paying for updates?

Except for the OBD2 function, which is free, other software will be unable to use if not updated after expiration.

7. Is it normal for pins 4 and 5 of the VCI connector to be longer than the other pins?

The pin 4 and 5 are the chassis and signal ground wires, and they are longer than other pins, which is a normal phenomenon.

8. When downloading an app on an Android phone, it requires authorization for GPS. Is it possible to disable GPS authorization after a successful Bluetooth connection?

GPS authorization is a requirement of the Android system, and our app itself will not access the location permission. The GPS cannot be turned off during the use of the app, as doing so will cause the Bluetooth connection to be disconnected.

9. How to delete an app account that is no longer in use?  

Dear user, if there is device bound to your account, please contact support@topdon.com to send your device SN and request for device unbind. Then you can go to the app > Me > click on the profile picture to enter Personal Account > click on Delete Account > enter the verification code received in the email and the account will be deleted.

10. Does Topscan support CAN FD and DOIP?

Yes, Topscan supports CAN FD, but doesn't support Doip.

11. How can I view the data stream in imperial?

Please enter the app > Me > Settings > Unit and set the unit to the imperial system. The data stream will switch to the imperial system.

12. Why does the app store prompt that the app is incompatible when installing?

This is mostly due to incompatibility between the app and the phone model. You can download AIDA64 to check the phone system information and confirm if it is a 32-bit operating system. The app is not compatible with 32-bit operating systems at present.

13. How can I use IMMO software? 

TopScan Lite doesn't have immo software, if you need to activate the immo function, please contact sales@topdon.com to purchase the IMMO software.

14. Why the mobile phone's camera cannot be opened when attempting to activate the VCI by scanning the QR code?

Please go to the app’s permission settings to confirm if camera/camera permission is allowed. After clicking allow, try again. You can also directly activate VCI via Bluetooth.

15. Why the app cannot recognize the VCI after logging in on another phone?  

1) Please confirm if you are using the account bound to the device to log in. Confirm that the email address is entered correctly. You can provide the device SN to query the login account in the background.
2) Check if the device has been connected to another device. It needs to be disconnected before connecting to another device.

16. Why can’t the VIN be automatically recognized?

1) It may be that the vehicle does not support autovin and the server does not have data for this vehicle.
2) It may be a network problem, please check the network connection or change the WiFi.
3) Try manually selecting the vehicle model for diagnosis.

17. Why does the communication intermittently disconnect after connecting the VCI to the vehicle?

Please try pushing the VCI inward to ensure a stable connection. Try connecting to another device to see if communication is stable. Provide a diagnostic video for the engineer’s confirmation.     

18. How can you quickly view specific data when there is lots of data on the list?

Please enter the name or keywords of the data flow you need to view in the search box on the live data interface.

19. How to view the recorded data stream?

The recorded data stream is saved in app>Me>Data Stream

20. Why does the diagnostic software disappear after I log in from another mobile phone?

Please kindly know that you need to download the diagnostic software again after changing the mobile phone to log in.

21. Why does the APP prompt that TopScan's VCI is required when activating T-darts in the Topscan App?

Please kindly know that you need to bind a TopScan on the App then you can bind T-darts.

22. Can TopScan connect to both VCI and T-darts at the same time?

No, only one Bluetooth device can be connected at a time. 

23. Why does the app store prompt that the app is not compatible when downloading?

This is mostly due to incompatibility between the app and the phone model. You can download AIDA64 to check the phone system information and confirm if it is a 32-bit operating system. The app is not compatible with 32-bit operating systems.
