RLink Lite

1. Function Usage

1.1. Is power supply required when binding RLink Lite?

There are two methods for binding: using the Rlink platform (Driver Monitoring System) or binding through the RLink Lite's own interface.

  1. Power supply is required when binding through the Rlink platform. You can power the RLink Lite in any of the following ways:

a. Connect to a 12V power source

b. Power through a diagnostic cable connected to the vehicle's OBD diagnostic port

  1. When binding through the RLink Lite's own interface, power supply is not required as long as the RLink Lite's battery is charged. Otherwise, you need to connect to a 12V power source or the vehicle's OBD diagnostic port for power.

1.2. Can the system install drivers for multiple Original Equipment Manufacturer (OE) software?

To avoid potential conflicts with other OE software drivers that may occupy the RLink Lite, hindering its normal connection with the current OE software, it is recommended to install only one OE software driver on a system. For example, installing the BMW OE software driver will occupy the RLink Lite, preventing it from connecting to other OE software until the BMW OE software driver is uninstalled.

1.3. After downloading the driver, can I turn off the Rlink platform when using OE software for local diagnosis?

Yes, you can turn it off. However, when running BMW OE software, the Rlink platform must remain active.

1.4. Is it necessary to disable antivirus software when downloading the RLink platform?

Yes. It is recommended to disable antivirus software when downloading the RLink platform. Since the RLink platform is the driver management platform for OEM software, it may be mistakenly deleted by antivirus software.

1.5. How many RLink devices can be bound to one RLink platform account?

There is no limit.

1.6. Why does it prompt that the device is bound to another account?

  1. Please ensure you are logging in with the correct account.
  2. If you have forgotten the account to which the device is bound, please provide the SN to TOPDON technical support. Email: support@topdon.com

1.7. What is the difference between PDU driver and J2534 driver?

  1. The PDU driver is mainly used to support vehicles with PDU diagnostic standards, J2534 diagnostic standards, and special diagnostic protocols. It is compatible with RLink Lite.
  2. The J2534 driver is mainly used to support vehicles with J2534 diagnostic standards. It is compatible with RLink J2534.
  3. The PDU driver includes all the functions of the J2534 driver.

1.8. Do I need to switch diagnostic modes when using OEM diagnostic VCI devices?

If there is an OEM driver mode in the driver, please switch to the OEM driver mode.

Note: Select the corresponding diagnostic mode according to the diagnostic device used. For example, if you are using the RLink device with Porsche OEM software for diagnosis, select RLink mode as the driver mode. When using the original PT3G with Porsche OEM software, select PT3G mode.

1.9. Can I diagnose the vehicle if the wrong driver mode is selected?

It is recommended to select the correct driver mode.

Note: If the wrong driver mode is selected, most brands of vehicles cannot be diagnosed. However, for a few brands, it may be possible to diagnose the vehicle, but the diagnostic results may be inaccurate.

1.10. Can I turn off the automatic start function of the RLink platform?

Yes. Click the settings icon, then click General. Under the "Run automatically at startup" option, select "No."

1.11. Does RLink Lite support the function of cloning module data?

RLink Lite is a VCI device compatible with OEM software of various vehicle brands and can serve as a substitute for OEM diagnostic VCI. The ability to clone module data depends on the specific functions supported by the OEM software you are using.

1.12. Can I use the RLink device without an internet connection?

Yes. After binding and activating the RLink device and downloading the corresponding driver on the RLink platform, you can perform vehicle diagnostics offline, unless using online diagnostic software or BMW diagnostic software.

1.13. Can I install drivers for multiple brands on one OEM diagnostic system?

No. It is recommended to install only one brand's driver for one OEM software system.

1.14. What is the difference between OEM software and integrated diagnostic equipment?

  1. OEM software usually contains newer, more comprehensive, accurate, and detailed data than integrated diagnostic equipment.
  2. In terms of vehicle programming, OEM software can achieve programming that integrated diagnostic equipment cannot.
  3. It has a significant advantage in programming second-hand modules, as OEM software supports forced writing.

  1. Check if the network connection is interrupted or if the network speed is too slow.
  2. Check if the OEM software is running or not closed. (When using OEM software, it may keep the driver active, preventing the RLink platform from updating or causing the update to fail.)
  3. If the update continues to fail, it is recommended to uninstall the RLink platform and reinstall it from the official website.

3.2. The Device is Connected Normally, but the OEM Software Still Cannot Recognize the Vehicle's VIN Code. How to Resolve?

  1. Check if the vehicle's ignition switch is turned on.
  2. Check if the driver is correctly downloaded. (Note: If there are other drivers, please uninstall them.)
  3. Open the OEM software and check if the selected diagnostic VCI is "RLink."
  4. Check if there are any updates for RLink Lite's firmware, system, and application. If there are, it is recommended to update.
  5. Check if there are any software updates for the RLink platform and if the drivers are updated. If there are, it is recommended to update.
  6. If the above issues have been ruled out, it is recommended to restart the OEM software. (The OEM software may sometimes experience connection issues.)
